Maternity Photography at Innerarity Point

There are some pieces in my client wardrobe that never stop making me happy, and this red maternity dress is definitely one of them.

I created this dress several years ago, and somehow, every time a maternity client chooses to wear it, I fall in love with it all over again. I absolutely love being crafty and creating props, costumes, and pieces specifically for photography. I just wish I had more time to make everything I dream up!

That's one of the reasons this dress is so special to me. It has become one of those timeless pieces that keeps getting a second life with every beautiful mama who wears it.

For this maternity session, we headed to a gorgeous local park in Innerarity Point, surrounded by lush green scenery. The setting was absolutely beautiful, and the red dress against all that greenery was simply stunning.

As the evening continued, we made our way toward the water and captured portraits along Perdido Bay. The sunset, the scenery, and this beautiful mama all came together perfectly.

There is something so special about maternity photography. You're documenting a moment that only exists for a short time—the anticipation, excitement, and beauty of waiting for someone you've already begun to love.

And when you add a gorgeous location, beautiful light, and a client who completely embraces the session, the result is magical.

Best Friends, Ghosts & Halloween Magic in Foley, Alabama

Halloween photography doesn't always have to be spooky and scary. Sometimes it's simply about having fun with your best friend—and these two girls absolutely understood the assignment! 👻💙💚

For this adorable best-friends Halloween photo shoot, we used beautiful blue and green satin sheets to create their ghostly looks, then headed to a local park in Foley, Alabama for an afternoon of laughter, friendship, and Halloween fun.

The girls had the best time running around, playing with the sheets, and bringing their own personalities into the session. Some of my favorite Halloween photographs aren't heavily styled productions—they're the ones where my clients are simply having a blast together.

How to Eat Your Way Through Downtown Pensacola: A Local’s Guide to the Best Food

If you ask me what I love about downtown Pensacola, I'm going to give you a lot of answers—but food is definitely near the top of that list.

Downtown Pensacola isn't just a place to walk around, shop, see a show, or admire the historic buildings. It is also one of the best places on the Gulf Coast to eat your way through an entire day.

And as someone who spends plenty of time around Pensacola, I'm going to share some of my favorite places to stop when you want really good food, great drinks, and a little bit of that downtown Pensacola atmosphere.

Start With Brunch at Ruby Slipper

Let's start with breakfast or brunch because a day of eating should absolutely begin properly.

Ruby Slipper Cafe on South Palafox is one of those places I recommend when you want a brunch that feels like an experience rather than just grabbing breakfast. It's a local favorite with Southern-inspired breakfast and brunch dishes, cocktails, and plenty of options for a leisurely morning downtown.

If you're spending the day exploring Pensacola, this is a great place to fuel up before walking around Palafox Street.

Want a Great Steak? Go to Jackson's

When it's time for dinner and you're looking for something a little more upscale, Jackson's Steakhouse is one of my downtown favorites.

Located right across from Plaza Ferdinand, Jackson's combines a beautiful historic downtown setting with steaks, seafood, wine, and cocktails.

This is the place I'd choose for a special occasion, date night, anniversary, or just one of those nights when you decide you're going to treat yourself.

And honestly, sometimes you don't need an occasion.

Dinner at Jackson's can be the occasion.

Seafood Lovers Need to Visit The Fish House

You can't write about eating in downtown Pensacola without talking about The Fish House.

It's right on Pensacola Bay near Seville Harbor, so you get beautiful waterfront views along with an upscale seafood menu. And if you've never tried their famous Grits à Ya Ya, put that on your list.

This is one of those dishes that has become synonymous with the Pensacola dining experience.

And if you're visiting from out of town, this is absolutely one of the restaurants I'd put on your Gulf Coast food itinerary.

Oysters? Atlas Is the Stop

If oysters are your thing, make your way next door to Atlas Oyster House.

Atlas specializes in fresh oysters from both local waters and around the country, and you can enjoy them on the half shell or prepared in different ways.

It's also right on the waterfront, so you're getting good food with a beautiful Pensacola backdrop.

If you're an oyster person, you already know where you're going.

If you're not an oyster person yet, maybe Atlas is where that changes.

If You Like Whiskey, Stop at Old Hickory

Now let's talk cocktails.

If you like whiskey, Old Hickory Whiskey Bar needs to be on your downtown Pensacola list.

It's the kind of place where you can slow down, order a cocktail, and enjoy the atmosphere instead of rushing through dinner and heading home.

And honestly, I love that downtown Pensacola gives you the option to make an entire evening out of dinner and drinks. You can eat somewhere great, walk around Palafox, stop for a cocktail, and see where the night takes you.

Union Public House is a great choice when you want something a little more relaxed but still want really good food and cocktails.

My Perfect Downtown Pensacola Food Day

If I were planning the perfect food-focused day downtown, here's how I'd do it:

Start with brunch at Ruby Slipper.

Walk it off by wandering around Palafox Street, checking out the shops and enjoying the historic downtown area.

Head toward the waterfront and spend some time around Seville Square and the bay.

Grab oysters at Atlas if you're hungry again—or save them for happy hour.

Then enjoy dinner at The Fish House or Jackson's, depending on whether you're craving seafood or steak.

And finally?

Head over to Old Hickory for a whiskey cocktail and call it a night.

Or don't.

That's the beauty of downtown Pensacola.

There is always another restaurant, another bar, another little shop, another event, or another reason to keep walking.

Eat Like a Local

One of my favorite things about Pensacola is that you don't have to travel far to have a completely different experience.

Downtown gives you historic buildings, waterfront views, shopping, entertainment, cocktails, brunch, seafood, steaks, oysters, international food, and plenty of places to simply sit down and enjoy yourself.

So whether you're visiting Pensacola for vacation, spending the weekend here, or you've lived here for years and just want to try somewhere new, don't overlook downtown.

Let’s Get Weird: Why I Love Cosplay & Halloween Photo Sessions

There are some photography sessions where everything is beautiful and perfectly planned. And then there are the sessions where we put on costumes, paint our faces, laugh until our stomachs hurt, and let the day take us wherever it wants to go.

Those are some of my favorites.

Recently, I spent the day downtown with a local makeup artist, friend, and fellow creative for a fun cosplay and Halloween-inspired photo session. We pulled costumes from things we already had, she transformed herself with incredible clown makeup and hair, and the result was absolutely stunning.

And yes, we giggled. A LOT.

We wandered around downtown Pensacola taking photos, and it didn't take long for the kids walking by to notice her. We got plenty of pointing, curious looks, and smiles from little ones who couldn't resist checking out the fabulous clown walking around downtown.

We also made a very important stop for ice cream at Traditional Soda Fountain at AJ's Market & Ice Cream. Because let's be honest, after running around downtown in the Florida heat in costumes and makeup, ice cream was absolutely necessary!

We made our way through Ferdinand Plaza, where we captured some fun images at the fountain, and then headed into the parking garage for another completely different look. I love using downtown Pensacola for sessions because there are so many different backgrounds and little surprises tucked around every corner.

Was it hot? Absolutely.

Was it sweaty? Without a doubt.

Was it worth it? 100 percent.

This is exactly why I love cosplay and Halloween photography so much.

There are no rules about having to look a certain way or pose a certain way. You get to become someone completely different for a little while. You get to play with makeup, costumes, characters, props, and imagination. Most importantly, you get to have FUN.

And because I only get the opportunity to offer these sessions a few times a year, I offer them at a heavy discount compared to my regular portrait sessions. These are sessions I genuinely love creating, and I want to make them accessible to people who are just as excited about costumes, makeup, characters, and creativity as I am.

Honestly, those are my favorite clients.

When someone shows up excited about their costume and starts throwing ideas around before we even pick up the camera, I know we're going to have a great time.

That's when something really special happens.

A Vampire Love Story in Downtown Pensacola

Some couples take engagement photos on the beach. Others decide to become vampires and creep around a historic graveyard at sunset. 🧛‍♀️🧛‍♂️ And honestly, I'm here for it!

This Halloween-inspired couple's session in downtown Pensacola was basically an engagement session with a seriously spooky twist. We headed into the graveyard around sunset and created some incredibly atmospheric portraits as these two embraced their vampire alter egos.

I also had the opportunity to create the female client's vampire makeup, which made the transformation even more fun. Combining photography, makeup, costumes, and a little imagination is exactly what makes themed sessions so much more than simply standing in front of a camera.

And the best part? This wasn't just another client session. I'm lucky enough to now call this client one of my good friends from my Mardi Gras life, which made getting to photograph them together even more special.

A Downtown Wedding in the Rain at the Barkley House

Sometimes the most beautiful wedding days don't go exactly as planned—and that's what makes them so memorable.

This intimate downtown wedding at the Barkley House was a beautiful celebration surrounded by family. The bride is someone I've had the pleasure of knowing through her mother, so being trusted to photograph such an important day for their family made this one especially meaningful to me.

The Barkley House was the perfect setting, with its beautiful white exterior, gorgeous trees, and sprawling lawn. The only thing we couldn't control was the rain!

Thankfully, we had enough time before their rental ended to get outside for some beautiful portraits. And rather than letting the rain stop us, we embraced it. We captured some incredibly romantic portraits of the newlyweds in the rain that ended up being some of my favorite images from their day.

With family gathered around them and a service member husband beginning this next chapter with his bride, this wasn't about having a huge wedding. It was about the people who mattered most, the love they share, and creating memories they'll have forever.

Rain and all, it was a beautiful downtown wedding—and a perfect reminder that sometimes the unexpected moments become the ones you'll treasure the most.

As a wedding photographer with 20+ years behind the camera, I’ve watched a LOT of Gulf Coast weather. And while every year is different, March can be a little unpredictable. It can rain, it can be windy, and yes—even here in Florida and Alabama, it can be downright chilly.

So have a backup plan. Trust me on this one.

Your Makeup Is Not the Place to Skimp

I see brides spend $100+ on shoes they may wear for a few hours, then hesitate to spend $150 on professional wedding makeup.

Ladies. Your face is in every photograph. 😂

Professional makeup isn't just about looking glamorous. It's about looking your absolute best on camera and having your makeup hold up through humidity, wind, happy tears, and a long wedding day.

Pamper yourself. You deserve it.

Think About Your Hair

Beach wind does not care about your wedding plans.

If you're getting married outside, I highly recommend having a hairstyle that can survive a little weather. Half-up, half-down is one of my favorite safe bets.

And have a backup hairstyle in mind.

Because if the wind decides your hair belongs in your face instead of where your hairstylist put it, there isn't much your photographer can do about it!

Check Your Permits

This is a big one for destination couples.

I live right on the Florida/Alabama line, and the rules aren't necessarily the same on both sides. Depending on where you're getting married, you may need permits or have specific rules regarding ceremonies, decorations, arches, chairs, or photography.

Do your homework before wedding day.

Give Yourself Something Pretty to Stand Under

If you're planning a beach ceremony, I LOVE a simple arbor decorated with flowers.

It gives your ceremony a focal point, photographs beautifully, and makes a tiny intimate wedding feel like an actual EVENT.

And let's be honest...your photographer will love you for it. 😉

Don't Forget About Your Getting-Ready Space

If you're having family and friends join you, or you're booking several hours of photography, consider renting a small Airbnb or beach house.

Having somewhere beautiful to get ready, relax, have a drink, take a few bridal portraits, and celebrate together can make your entire wedding day feel less rushed.

You don't need a giant wedding venue.

Sometimes a little beach house, your favorite people, your dress, some flowers, and a great photographer are all you really need.

And Yes...You Need a Great Photographer

From Terrified to Totally ROCKING It: Krista’s Perdido Key Glamour Session

Let me tell you about my girl Krista. ❤️

When she showed up for this glamour session at Perdido Key Beach, she was TERRIFIED. Like, absolutely trembling terrified. 😂

She wasn't sure she could do it. She wasn't sure she was ready to step in front of the camera and really put herself out there.

But about 15 minutes in?

Something changed.

She started feeling herself. She started realizing, “Wait a damn minute… I CAN do this!”

And girl, did she EVER.

Krista absolutely ROCKED this entire session. By the end, she was feeling more beautiful and confident than she had in years.

Sometimes you just have to let go, trust your photographer, and give yourself permission to see yourself differently.

And can we talk about this dress?! 😍

The jeweled detailing around the bra and hips with the flowing, sheer tulle created the perfect combination of romantic, elegant, and just a little bit sexy. It's one of my favorite looks for glamour and sunrise sessions—and YES, it's available in my client closet!

The dress is a size 4 but has some stretch and may work for a size 6 depending on your fit.

But honestly, the dress isn't what made these photos beautiful.

Sometimes the woman who walks into my camera terrified is the same woman who walks away thinking…

When I’m not photographing everyone else’s beautiful moments, I’m usually out making a few of my own.

Creating My Own Beetlejuice World

Some of my favorite photography sessions have always started with a wild idea—and this Beetlejuice-inspired Halloween setup was definitely one of them. 💚💜

Back when I had my studio, I decided I needed a Beetlejuice fireplace. So, naturally, I built one myself. 😂 What started as nothing more than cardboard, masking tape, and flexible concrete turned into an incredible backdrop for some seriously fun Halloween boudoir sessions.

And honestly, how lucky am I that I got to create things like this?

That’s one of the things I love most about themed photography. You don't have to settle for whatever happens to be available. If you have an idea, we can build a world around it.

What to Do When Summer Is Almost Over on the Gulf Coast

Wait… how is summer almost over already?

The kids are back in school, the crowds are disappearing, and suddenly everyone is talking about fall. But here on the Gulf Coast, it still feels like summer!

And honestly? This might be one of the best times to enjoy everything Pensacola, Perdido Key, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach have to offer.

Take Advantage of the Smaller Crowds

With most families back home and kids back in school, attractions are noticeably less crowded. That means more room to play, shorter lines, and a much more relaxed experience.

Take the kids to Goofy Golf, an arcade, or one of our local water parks. The water is still warm, but now you don't have to fight the summer crowds for a spot!

Explore Some Gulf Coast History

In Pensacola, a visit to NAS Pensacola is a fantastic family outing. See the incredible aircraft and explore the lighthouse while learning a little about our area's military and maritime history.

Heading toward Gulf Shores or Orange Beach? Take a trip to Fort Morgan and explore a piece of Lower Alabama history.

Grab Some Ice Cream

It's still summer, which means there is always an excuse for ice cream!

Find one of our local ice cream shops, grab your favorite flavor, and take a walk afterward. Stroll along the Pensacola waterfront or head down the beach near The Hangout in Gulf Shores.

Make a Water Park Day Out of It

If you've been putting off the water park because you didn't want to deal with the crowds, now is your time!

The weather is still hot enough to enjoy the water, but with school back in session, you may find much more space to actually enjoy the slides, pools, and attractions.

A Downtown Pensacola Elopement: When Two Hours Tell the Whole Story

Not every wedding needs a ballroom, a hundred guests, or an entire weekend of celebrations. Sometimes, two people, few best friends, and a couple of hours are all you need to create something incredibly meaningful.

This beautiful downtown Pensacola elopement was exactly that.

A Wedding Day That Was Truly About Them

Both members of this couple are service members, and because they were away at school for their military service, their families couldn't be there to celebrate with them.

Instead, they brought their two best friends, who served as their witnesses and their bridal party.

We started at the Pensacola courthouse and then headed out into downtown Pensacola for portraits.

And let me tell you—it was hot! We were walking around downtown in the middle of the day under that bright Florida sun when we came across Ferdinand Plaza. The beautiful trees gave us some much-needed shade, and it turned out to be the perfect spot for some relaxed portraits.

We even made a new friend along the way—an adorable little squirrel who apparently wanted to be part of the wedding photos!

From Downtown to Seville

After exploring downtown, we continued on to Seville Square, capturing more portraits and enjoying the historic atmosphere of the area.

By the end of our two-hour photography experience, it was time for the newlyweds to relax and celebrate. We finished the afternoon with a light lunch and a cocktail at Seville before I left them to enjoy the rest of their wedding day together.

Because their families couldn't be there, these photographs weren't just wedding pictures. They were how their families would get to experience the day.

Every smile, embrace, and portrait would become something they could share with the people who couldn't physically be there.

That's one of the things I love most about photography. Sometimes we're not just preserving a moment for the people standing in front of the camera. We're creating memories that can be shared with everyone who loves them.

Just because I don’t have a permanent studio right now doesn’t mean Boudoir is going anywhere!

After having a studio for 13 years, I’m actually excited about the possibilities that come with stepping outside those four walls. Instead of being tied to one space, I’m planning to offer Boudoir sessions quarterly throughout the year, using carefully selected Airbnb locations and unique spaces that give every session its own personality.

And who says Boudoir has to happen in Pensacola?

What if we found an incredible waterfall? A beautiful barn? A secluded cabin? An amazing getaway location less than two hours away? I’m ready to explore.

Each quarterly Boudoir experience will give me the opportunity to bring you somewhere different and create something completely unique. I’m looking forward to discovering new locations, experimenting with different themes, and turning each session into an experience—not just a photo shoot.

I have years of Boudoir work to share, and I’m excited to bring that experience into this next chapter.
